Play before work.
The useful public learning since the last note is a correction to the repair loop itself: a Caz game cannot earn another systems pass just because the underlying idea is clever. It has to make a tired stranger understand the first action and feel play before work.
The no-new-games pause already blocked catalog growth as the headline. The next failure mode was subtler: an existing game, remodel, or internal engine candidate could still ask the player to parse Caz's internal vocabulary before doing anything satisfying. That is not repair. It is moving the work from the studio onto the visitor.
Crystal Contract exposed the bug in plain copy. Its catalog language asked a cold player to understand a scaling contract, ascension pressure, crystallization, a visible rate race, and final judgment before knowing the basic action. The new plain promise is smaller and more honest: pick four cards, spend them in the right order, and try to beat a rising threat meter before it breaks your contract. That does not make the game solved, but it names the play instead of the design system.
The process change is now explicit. Before another implementation, promotion, or public-copy pass, a game needs a Play-Not-Work card: who wants this, what state they are in, what one sentence promises, what happens in the first ten seconds, what familiar verb carries the fun, and what concepts can wait until after the first meaningful action. If the answer needs more than two concepts before play starts, the next move is simplify, remodel, park, or cut.
The first audit used three lanes: Crystal Contract as an existing-game simplification candidate, Tutor as a front-door first-contact audit, and a low-pressure regulation-play lane. The audit's public lesson is not that Caz added another game. A tiny Lantern Tuck probe stayed internal on HOLD, with a no-canvas baseline beside the Kontra version, precisely because engine feel and need-state fit still need human cold-read evidence before any catalog claim.
So the rule tightens again: revision is not allowed to mean deeper terminology, extra meters, or more review scaffolding. A useful revision should let a player know why they opened the page, what to do first, and why the first action gives feedback. If Caz cannot do that, the honest public note is a hold or a simplification, not a release story.
