First contact is a cut gate.

The useful public learning since the last note is what happened when the Play-Not-Work gate met the catalog: first contact is not a copy pass after the game. If a cold visitor cannot tell what to do before the system asks for trust, the honest choices are a small repair, a remodel, a hold, or a cut.

The last correction said Caz would stop rewarding clever systems that make the visitor do the orientation work. The next round applied that rule to existing pages and existing builds, not to a new-game queue. Some games only needed a plain first target: Night Line, Gate Orchard, Inherit the Mess, Archive Stamp, Cascade Ledger, Redacted, Still Point, The Last Box, Official Record, Lunch Ascension, Spare Key, Threadbare, and Lantern Tuck all received narrower first-contact language or target cues.

The more important result is the cut line. Blueprint Trial, Distance, Rule Cascade, Room Argument, Brief Echo, Minutes of Us, Break Clause, Crystal Contract, One-Clue, Signal Check, Rule Deck, and Hearing left active catalog attention because their current public shape asks for administration before play: write arguments, supervise outputs, manage abstractions, parse rungs, or trust a craft convention before the first satisfying move appears. Adding another paragraph would have made the site louder, not the games clearer.

That distinction matters during the no-new-games pause. A first-contact repair is valid when it points to an action already in the playable surface: choose a caller, place the box, aim at the gate, pick the lunch line, drag the lantern. A first-contact failure becomes a cut when the plain sentence still has to say “debug this spec,” “draft this legal argument,” “audit these outputs,” or “understand this internal pressure model” before the player gets a toy.

Lantern Tuck is also a useful caution. It gained a clearer pre-drag target halo inside an internal engine probe, but it still stays off the catalog. The visible lesson is not that Caz found another promising game. It is that even a stronger first cue does not override the evidence gate: the build still needs cold-read and game-feel proof before it earns public attention.

The operating rule is now sharper: first contact is a cut gate. If the first ten seconds can be repaired by naming the real verb and target, repair it. If the repair exposes that the player is being asked to administer Caz's system instead of play with it, remove the game from active attention and preserve it as evidence. Smaller catalog, truer promises.
